Hyderabad aka the Pearl City had always been unmatched with its amalgamation of history and modernity, thereby hypnotizing everyone, whoever sets his/her foot in this beautiful city of Nizams. Among a plethora of natural getaways, the city’s two famous parks Lumbini Park and NTR Garden are now reckoned to be renamed Telangana Martyrs Memorial Park and Dr B.R. Ambedkar Park, respectively.
As per the latest speculations, the Telangana government is earnestly looking forward to renaming the two popular parks. Talking about NTR Garden in particular, it is said that the government is also considering the new name, NTR-Ambedkar Park. Meanwhile, the news brings in divided opinions, besides adjusting their minds to the new names. Not to mention, the government is vividly focusing more tightly on preserving and celebrating the collective memory of the state’s achievements.
The above mentioned name for Lumbini park gets a thumbs up as it prominently celebrates the state’s pride. The opinions differ in the case of NTR Garden, which was named after the former Chief minister of Andhra Pradesh and the thespian of Telugu Cinema, N. T. Rama Rao. Meanwhile, a separate martyrs memorial museum is coming up adjacent to the Lumbini Park.
Also, the government is hiring landscape architects as the HMDA has decided to develop the Lumbini Park and NTR Garden to suit the landscape of the new Secretariat building located nearby. The reports further suggest that the 125-foot tall bronze statue will be built on a sprawling 11 acres of land at NTR Garden. IT would be the world’s tallest statue of Ambedkar.
Other changes are expected to be made such as the construction of a meditation centre, photo gallery, and conference hall. Officials said that access would be given to the proposed ropeway connecting People’s Plaza, Jalavihar, Sanjeevaiah Park and Indira Park.
