BJP has stunned many including its arch rivals by nominating Ex Governor of Jharkhand and Tribal Leader Droupadi Murmu as NDA’s Presidential Candidate.
While this announcement pushed the Opposition parties in defence, the neutral political parties have got a strong reason to support NDA in the Presidential Elections. One such political party is YS Jagan-led YSR Congress Party in Andhra Pradesh.
Although both YSRCP and BJP criticise in the state openly, it is no secret that both the parties have secret pact at the national level. The central leadership of both the parties have maintained good relations.
With a tribal leader like Droupadi Murmu as the Presidential Candidate, AP CM Jagan Mohan Reddy has got a strong reason to lend support to the NDA. YCP officially has 150 MLAs and 22 Lok Sabha MPs and 9 Rajya Sabha MPs. The by-election for Atmakur is due with the demise of Mekapati Goutham Reddy. YCP has support of Gannavaram MLA Vallabhaneni Vamsi (TDP) and Razole MLA Rapaka Vara Prasad (Janasena).
Given this, YCP has strong vote bank and expected to play crucial role in Prez Polls. Jagan has now got the reason to support NDA with the nomination of woman tribal leader Droupadi Murmu.
Meanwhile, the Presidential election 2022 will be held on July 18 as the term of office for President Ram Nath Kovind is ending on July 24. The electoral college comprises the members of both the houses of Parliament and the members of the legislative assemblies of all the States and Union Territories who are going to cast their vote in the Presidential Elections. Nominated members of Rajya Sabha, Lok Sabha and Assemblies and members of Legislative Councils are not eligible to be part of Presidential Elections.
