Atmakur by-election, which was facilitated after the demise of Mekapati Gautham Reddy, has turned interesting with BJP fielding its candidate. While Opposition party TDP and Janasena have decided not contest in the by-election, BJP is contesting. However, BJP’s contest is only nominal. BJP fielded a “weak” candidate in order to indirectly help ruling YCP. It is buzzed that BJP had given its ticket to a candidate who is originally non-local to Atmakur constituency. This is said to have made it easier for YSRCP in the poll.
If the by-election was unanimous, politically it wouldn’t have a great impact. But by contesting by-poll, it will result in a huge majority for the ruling party. This would boost the morale of the YCP and its cadre ahead of the general election.
As Jagan is going to help the BJP by supporting NDA’s Presidential Candidate Droupadi Murmu, it is expected that BJP in turn is also helping YCP owing to their secret pact. Meanwhile, Janasena remains the ally of BJP in the state.
