Miscreants, supposed to be YCP activists, smeared their party colours to the statue of TDP founder and former Chief Minister N.T. Rama Rao at Bommuluru village in Gudivada Rural mandal, Krishna district.
Bommuluru is just 1 km away from Angaluru where former CM and TDP boss N. Chandrababu Naidu planned Mahanadu.
On information, party MLC Bachula Arjunudu and senior leader Pinnamaneni Venkateswara Rao reached the village. TDP leaders cleansed the statue by performing ‘palabhishekam’. Later, they painted the statue with yellow colour, representing their party.
Later, YCP activists attacked the TDP cadre after the TDP MLCs left the village and this led to a tense situation. The TDP MLC said that such acts of the YCP only reflect the autocratic rule of the party and the attitude of the leaders.
“There is no democracy. Both people and opposition parties leaders are being put under pressure by the ruling party to accept whatever Chief Minister Jagan Mohan Reddy and his henchmen wish to do,” he said.
The YCP cannot own NTR just by smearing colours to his statues, said a TDP activist. “The YCP leaders claim they have respect for NTR but such acts do not reflect their words,” he pointed out.
It is likely that clashes between the YCP-TDP leaders increase in the coming days as elections are fast approaching, felt political analysts.
