A veteran Bollywood actor and senior politician Raj Babbar was sentenced to two-year imprisonment.
Congress leader Raj Babbar was convicted for voluntarily causing hurt to deter a public servant from performing his duty. Raj Babbar assaulted a polling officer during an election in May 1996.
The officer named Shri Krishna Singh Rana filed an FIR against Raj Babbar when the latter was contesting from the Samajwadi Party. The polling officer filed a report against many people including Raj Babbar in the Wazirganj police station.
The court also imposed a fine of Rs. 8500 on him and Raj Babbar was present in the courtroom when the court gave the verdict.
Raj Babbar reportedly entered the police area along with his supporters and assaulted the polling staff and also affecting the voting process.
