Just as the number of Covid-19 cases has been increasing by the day in Hyderabad, reports of various hospitals being ruthless with the patients have also been on spike. The Deccan Hospital in Somajiguda rose to prominence by charging lakhs of rupees for treatment of Covid patients.
In the wake of several reports on this hospital fleecing the patients, Telangana Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao has cancelled the permission for Deccan to treat Covid-infected persons. An order to this effect was issued by the TS government on Monday evening. With the government cracking the whip on the erring hospitals, patients have expressed happiness over the timely action. Deccan Hospitals is the first among the corporate sector to face the music. Henceforth, Covid patients cannot get admitted to Deccan Hospital. However, Deccan Hospital has not responded to the orders.
Further, the Telangana state government had warned the managements of hospitals that it would cancel permissions of their healthcare facilities if they receive any complaints against them from the public.
Corporate hospitals have been charging heavily for Corona treatment as they say that they have to cut down the bed capacity to half, to maintain physical distancing, even while going for double the maintenance charges in the name of keeping surroundings clean to keep the virus at bay.
However, KCR seems not to be convinced with this argument and his government has swung into action against those hospitals looting the patients in the name of treatment. The government also made it clear that the hospitals can charge only that amount which has been decided by the government.
