Freebies are a huge part of the Indian electoral process. Political parties from north to south offer many soaps for the public just to grab power and the trend is that the party which offers more freebies will come to power.
Sending out a warning sort of thing, Prime Minister Narendra Modi commented that freebies are very dangerous for development and they should be cut down or eventually shut down. PM Modi made these comments upon inaugurating the 296 kilometres Bundelkhand Expressway.
“People should be well aware of the freebies being offered by the political parties during elections. I especially urge the youth of the country to not fall for any of such tactics. India has a good opportunity to move forward in development and if this motive gets diverted, the country will move into darkness and the valuable future of the youth will get wasted,” said Modi.
Further, “Things that harm the development, should be set aside. The concept of freebies should be removed from the country’s politics. Build roads and infrastructure that can fulfill people’s aspirations,” stated Modi.
Despite these comments, we must take note that Modi’s government is working at the behest of a few business tycoons. Moreover, the Modi government has written off nearly Lakhs of crore of Rupees debts that fugitives owe banks. This act by Modi sarkar reflected on huge aspects of the country’s economy.
The irony is that Modi often makes comments that he doesn’t self analyse. He is also part of the government that offered many freebies but there has been a change in Modi’s approach recently. Yet his thought process would once again change when his home state, Gujarat, will be going for Assembly polls later this year.
