The stage is all set for the election of the 15th President of India today. In a never before feat, the ruling BJP has managed to garner the support of the two arch rivals, YSRCP and TDP, unanimously for its presidential candidate, Draupadi Murmu. The MPs and MLAs of both the Telugu parties will be casting their votes in favour of Draupadi Murmu.
This morning, former CBI Joint Director turned political activist VV Lakshmi Narayana took to Twitter and made an earnest appeal to all the AP legislators ahead of the presidential poll. “Dear AP legislators, before you cast your “political vote” at the cost of Special Category Status in the presidential poll, introspect your conscience and the Special Category Status promise you had made to the people of Andhra Pradesh,” tweeted Lakshmi Narayana.
Incidentally, Lakshmi Narayana has been targeting both YSRCP and TDP ever since both the warring Telugu parties announced their unconditional support to NDA’s presidential candidate Draupadi Murmu. He recently stated that presidential election is the perfect opportunity for YSRCP and TDP to get the promised special status for AP.
“No-confidence motions, resignations and withdrawal from NDA were tried for political gain. If sincere then vote only after center announces Special Status (SCS),” he tweeted. He also questioned YSRCP and TDP’s political strategy during the 2012 presidential election, when a Scheduled Tribe candidate PA Sangma was in the race.
“While YSRCP voted for UPA candidate Pranab Mukherjee, TDP maintained a strategic silence. What happened to their social justice then? Instead of playing “social justice drama” in the presidential election, they should vote for “the justice for state” and only if the state is accorded Special Category Status,” tweeted Lakshmi Narayana.
