A gas leak at a manufacturing unit in the Brandix Special Economic Zone in AP’s Anakapalle district left 50 workers hospitalized. All workers are women and they complained of nausea and vomiting after they are exposed to the gas leak.
The workers were treated with first aid at the medical center of SEZ and shifted to nearby hospitals.
The Superintendent of Police of Anakapalle said the gas leak reportedly happened at the premises of Brandix and 50 people were hospitalized due to that. The evacuation process is underway.
Earlier, a similar incident in the district was reported on June 3. Around 200 women workers fell unconscious after they complained of nausea, vomiting, and an eyesore. It was suspected that ammonia gas leaked from the Poris Laboratories unit in the area.
Experts from the Indian Institute of Chemical Technology in Hyderabad visited the lab and conducted tests to determine the cause of the gas leak. The pollution Control Board ordered the closure of the lab.
In May 2020, a major gas leak in LG Polymers killed eleven people in Vizag area. The leak of Styerene gas is mentioned as the cause for the incident.
