Vice President Venkaiah Naidu’s tenure has come to an end. In Monday Parliament sessions, the Rajya Sabha bid a farewell to Venkaiah Naidu and Prime Minister Narendra Modi in his speech, was all praise of Naidu and his contributions.
“Personally, it has been my fortune that I have seen you closely in different roles. I have worked with you over the years and have seen you take up different responsibilities. You never considered any work a burden, you have tried to breathe a new life into every work. It is a remarkable rise from a humble background to chair one of the highest constitutional positions. You brought more dignity to the chair,” said PM Modi.
Venkaiah Naidu is known for his oratory skills and Modi mentioned the same as well. “Your one-liners are wit-liners. They are win-liners too. Your every word is heard, preferred and revered and never countered,” quoted Modi and added that in Naidu’s role as Upper House Speaker, Rajya Sabha’s productivity increased by 70 percent and attendance of MPs have gone up.
Leader of the Opposition Mallikarjun Kharge acknowledged Venkaiah Naidu’s work and in his speech, he said he has complaints against Naidu. “We may be people from two different ideologies but you had advocated for a national policy for Upper Houses in all major states. You played your role even under such difficulty and pressure, I thank you for it. I may also have some complaints with you but this isn’t the time to speak about them,” said Kharge.
Venkaiah Naidu will demit the Vice President office on August 10th and Jagdeep Dhankhar will take charge.
