President Ramnath Kovind is serious over the unruly incident by AP police where a youth’s head was tonsured/shaved as an act of “punishment”. Taking the issue seriously, President Kovind has appointed a special officer to probe the case and assured the victim that justice would be served.
The President’s Secretariat has transferred the petition to Assistant Secretary, General Administration Department, A. Janardhan Babu for further investigation.
23-year-old Varprasad was earlier arrested by local police following a complaint from the leader of ruling YSRCP in East Godavari district. Allegedly, men of a YCP leader, who was indulged in sand smuggling, had fought with Prasad and the issue reached the Seetanagaram police station.
On July 20, Varaprasad was allegedly beaten by police and was humiliated in front of the ruling party leader by shaving Prasad’s head. This incident has turned sensational and created a state-wide outrage with the youth belonging to the SC community.
Opposition TDP has come down heavily on the ruling party over the incident. Even police higher authorities have taken the issue seriously and launched a probe into it. SI Sheikh Feroze Shah and other policemen involved were being probed. CM Jagan has also instructed to take action against those responsible.
Meanwhile, with no major development in the case, victim Varaprasad has recently written a letter to President Ramnath Kovind explaining the incident and stated that he may consider joining Naxalites against the act of police because he alleged that the law and order “failed” to do justice. His letter was taken seriously by the Rashtrapati Bhavan.
Prasad has been asked to meet Assistant Secretary Janardhan Babu and submit the necessary evidence against the police personnel. The case has been transferred to General Administration Department’s Janardhan Babu who has been assigned to probe the incident.
