Having won a majority of 151 in the 175-seat Assembly in 2019 elections, Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy has complete knowledge of the power and influence of social media on the electorate. In the 2024 elections, Jagan is determined to make a clean sweep in the state and shifted his focus to the social media. There is criticism that Jagan and his cadre had not been as fast paced as the Opposition TDP in this area during the last three years.
Sensing that they are way behind the TDP on the social media, the YCP is now frequently making necessary changes in its strategies. Till now, Jagan’s confidant and MP V. Vijayasai Reddy had been the head of the media cell of the party. Now, his place has been shifted and it is being said that a decision has been taken to entrust the responsibility of the social media wing to the son of an important leader in the party.
According to sources, the CM had held a meeting with his coterie in the camp office and the job of social media management has been entrusted to the new leader. It is also learnt that I-PAC representative Rishi Raj and his team, who are acting as the strategists for the YCP, social media coordinators, YCP general secretary Sajjala Ramakrishna Reddy attended the meet.
The CM, reportedly, instructed those attending the meeting to inform the public about the numerous welfare programmes being implemented by the YCP government and at the same time, hit back at the Opposition leaders and their criticism. He also directed them to prepare effective content on the social media to reach the masses and win their hearts.
The I-PAC team, social coordinators and others involved in the social media wing have been told to be alert and change their strategies to suit the taste of the voters so as to reach their homes and hearts.
It has to be seen how far the YCP would be successful in tapping the potential of social media and if it would be able to beat out its rival and the opposition TDP.
