Generally when an MLA passes away, the by-poll would be unanimous. But since 2014, it hasn’t been the same scene in Telangana. When a couple of Congress MLAs breathed their last in the TRS government’s first term, the ruling party contested the elections and won the seats.
Now the Congress is doing the same as the TRS party has done in the past. Recently Dubbaka MLA Solipeta Ramalingareddy has passed away due to ill health. So the by-election is evitable but many thought it would be unanimous and TRS was also expecting the same.
But out of nowhere, the Telangana Congress said it would be contesting the by-election. This is confirmed by none other than TPCC chief Uttam Kumar Reddy. Speaking he said, “There are reports that the Congress party has lost its glory. But with Dubbaka by-election, we shall show our stamina.”
Asking the party workers to strengthen the party in the state, Uttam further said that the TPCC will support whatever initiatives the party workers take. “Hold mandal level and constituency level meetings and invite all important leaders for these meetings. Hopefully I will also make it to the meetings,” said Uttam.
This is surprising because another Congress MLA Jagga Reddy has urged the TRS party to field any of Solipeta family members and he would make sure the by-poll is unanimous. Days after Jagga Reddy’s comments, Uttam issued a clarity on the by-poll that the Telangana Congress is contesting it.
But for the TRS party, by-election is a lucky thing. They have won a majority of them and if the election is evitable, it would go all out to retain the seat.
We have to see what is in Telangana BJP’s mind regarding Dubbaka!
