Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched National Digital Health Mission (NDHM) at the Red Fort while addressing the nation on the occasion of the 74th Independence Day on Saturday. Under the programme, every Indian will be issued an exclusive ID number and this technology-driven mission will help in bringing about revolutionary changes in the health sector.
Comprehensive health information of every Indian will be kept available under the particular ID.
“Every person in the country will be given an ID card. Whenever an individual approaches a hospital or pharmacy, the data will get encrypted under the particular ID,” the PM said.
The NDHM will come under the purview of the Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya (AB-PM-JAY). This Mission is expected to improve the capabilities, functioning and transparency of medical services in the country.
The health information of an individual can be accessed by doctors and health providers only once and this is being planned to avoid misuse of the data.
Telemedicine and e-pharmacy services will also be provided under the Mission. At the same time, the Mission will also enable the citizens to avail the different government health schemes.
In the wake of the pandemic, the officials and authorities have understood the importance of telemedicine and the need to strengthen the medical services in the country.
