Telugu States Bag Many ‘Swachh’ Awards

The Telugu states bagged numerous Swachh Survekshan awards yet again. Telangana and Andhra Pradesh together bagged more than 20 of the Swachh Survekshan awards given away by President Draupadi Murmu yesterday.

Greater Visakhapatnam, Vijayawada and Tirupati were ranked the cleanest cities among the top 10 in the category of towns with more than one lakh population. These apart, Rajamahendravaram, Kurnool, Kadapa and Nellore were ranked in the top 100 of the same category.

The Vijayawada Municipal Corporation was awarded ‘cleanest capital.’ Municipal commissioner Swapnil Dinakar Pundkar and mayor Rayala Bhagya Lakshmi received the award from Union housing minister Hardeep Singh Puri.

In the garbage-free cities list, Vizag and Tirupati were given five-star rating. Vizag was also awarded ‘top impact creator’ under Million Plus City category.
The Tirupati Municipal Corporation won first rank in ‘Safaimitra Suraksha Seher.’

In the category of population between 50,000 and 1 lakh, 21 cities in Andhra Pradesh secured ranks among the top 100. Of them, Punganur got third rank and Pulivendula stood in the ninth position.

The Port City (Vizag) bagged the ‘clean big city’ award, with population of 10 lakh to 40 lakh.

In Telangana, Hyderabad jumped to the 26th position this year from the 37th rank last year.

Secunderabad was adjudged the best city in ‘citizen feedback’ category.

Siddipet was ranked in 30th position, while Warangal was ranked 84th and Karimnagar 89th in the list.

Indore topped the list of cities with more than 1 lakh population for the sixth consecutive year followed by Surat, Navi Mumbai, Vizag and Vijayawada.

Telangana also received 17 Swachh Sarvekshan awards under different categories.

The survey to award the rankings was conducted by the Ministry of Housing & Urban Affairs (MoHUA).
