CJI Opts For “Not before me” In Amaravati Case

Published by

The Supreme Court put brakes to the hearing on the contentious Amaravati capital when the case came up for hearing this morning.

Chief Justice of India UU Lalit refused to deal with the case saying “Not before me”. Having been the personal advocate of Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy in the past, the CJI said that the petitions should be transferred to another bench.

It is being said that the case will come up for the next hearing only after the next CJI DY Chandrachud assumes office.

Reacting on the development, the Amaravati Farmers JAC leader expressed hope that justice would be done to them. He said that their prayers to the Almighty have always been answered and expressed confidence that their plea will be honoured.

The Amaravati-Arasavalli padayatra taken up by the capital region farmers has been halted temporarily which will be resumed soon.

TDP spokesperson K. Pattabhi said that CJI Lalit had done the same thing when another case relating to the CM reached the Supreme Court. “We expected that this would happen and he acted in the same way.”

He said that the justice will be done to the capital region farmers as the High Court delivered its verdict basing on the judgement by the Supreme Court in connection with Mangal Singh Vs Union of India. “Will the Supreme Court reverse its own decision just because the YCP government filed a petition,” he asked and said that Jagan was doing all this, as part of conspiracy against Amaravati. “There is no doubt about justice to farmers,” he said.
