The Enforcement Directorate (ED) raids have resumed in Telangana after the Munugode by-election. On Wednesday morning, ED carried out search operations in Hyderabad and Karimnagar in connection with illegal granite minings.
Between 2011 and 2013, crores worth granites have been exported from mining quarries to Kakinada and Krishnapatnam ports. In 2012, BJP lodged a complaint with the CBI against this illegal mining alleging that the state government incurred Rs 750 crore loss. There are nearly 350 mining companies in the joint Karimnagar district and a majority of them are related to Telangana minister Gangula Kamalakar.
In the past the ED has summoned notices to many mining companies on the charges of On Wednesday the ED held raids at Arvind Granites, Swetha Granites and also at the residences of a few owners of these mining companies. There are reports that the ED also reached TRS minister Gangula’s residence but it was locked. We hear that the ED broke the lock and carried out raids.
These raids by ED gained huge political significance and are all over the headlines in the media. The TRS camp is in panic mode with the raids and some are enquiring about TRS minister Gangula’s whereabouts. From media reports we hear that the minister Gangula is currently on a Dubai tour.
