Hyderabad is hosting India’s first-ever Formula E grand prix where car racers from across the world participated in this car race event. This prestigious championship race will be held on Feb 10th & 11th, 2023. Presently, a test run of car race on real time basis is being held on Nov 19 and 20 and Dec 10 and 11 at the 2.37 km long racing track spruced up alongside historic Hussain Sagar lake at the necklace road.
This dates back to Chandrababu Naidu as Chief Minister for the undivided state of Andhra Pradesh. In 2003, Chandrababu had met the F1 CEO Bernie Ecclestone and pitched for the F1 car race in Hyderabad. Naidu had invited F1 CEO to visit Hyderabad and wanted to close the deal for Formula 1 race in Hyderabad in 2006.
However, all those attempts turned futile after Naidu’s decision faced political heat and it was targeted by then opposition leader YS Rajasekhar Reddy who attacked Naidu for focusing on cars when the state was in drought.
YSR then alleged Chandrababu of leaving farmers and thinking of races. But after his vision 2020, now in 2022, Hyderabad is the first place in the country hosting car races “Hyd Formula E Car races’. The car race championship will witness electric single-seater cars where 22 drivers from 11 teams from across the world will participate.
All this once again proves Chandrababu’s vision for development and progress. Be it establishing Hitech city or initiating the ORR, facilitating infrastructure for investments and developing IT through cyberabad, Naidu and Hyderabad can’t be seen separately. The contribution of Naidu for Hyderabad’s growth story remains alive in the people’s memory.
