Brother-sister bonding is precious for the reinforcement of assurance from the former to the latter. Life throws up numerous challenges and to overcome them, we seek the support of family members and close buddies. Especially, brothers are expected to be the pillars of support for sisters as they can understand and empathise with their siblings, with whom they have grown up together. This family relationship seems to be lacking in the politics, in Telugu states.
Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy is neglecting his sister Y.S. Sharmila while minister K.T. Rama Rao is not bothering to counter the allegations, against his sister K. Kavitha, in connection with the Delhi liquor scam.
For the last few days, Sharmila has been leading a padayatra in Telangana and in the last 3-4 days, she became a hot topic. Her harsh comments against TRS leader Peddireddy Sudarshan Reddy pushed her into trouble as the TRS cadre in erstwhile Warangal attacked her convoy and damaged a vehicle. When she tried to take the damaged vehicle to the CM’s residence, the police dragged the four-wheeler along with her away from the Pragathi Bhavan and arrested her.
This episode led to a tense atmosphere in the Telangana capital. Further, the TRS leaders have been issuing warnings to Sharmila to hold her tongue or face serious consequences.
In such a charged up situation, her brother Jagan remained unresponsive. Just as he had stayed silent when Sharmila floated her YSRTP in Telangana, Jagan is maintaining the same gap now. His mother Vijayamma’s comments that they have no connection with either Jagan or Andhra Pradesh has accentuated the situation.
It is worth noting that Sharmila took up the baton and continued Jagan’s Odarpu Yatra when he was arrested and jailed, in connection with the disproportionate assets case. She even was acclaimed as ‘Jagananna vadilina baanam’. After the launch of her party in Telangana too, there were doubts if she was still continuing in the same spirit. However, at a later stage, when Sharmila said that Sakshi media would not cover her party programmes, the public could understand that cracks developed between the siblings in YSR family.
Three months have passed since these comments were made by Sharmila and now the situation has turned more critical and demands some support from her brother. But, Jagan still continues to be silent.
In Telangana too, the situation seems to be grim. Kalvakuntla Kavitha is facing tough times with her name being included in the Delhi liquor scam. On one hand, the BJP leaders are targeting her and on the other, her name was included in the ED’s remand report. The report stated that Kavitha was involved in the transfer of Rs 100 crore between the scamsters and that she even tried to eliminate the evidence by destroying 10 cell phones.
Despite the uproar in the media and on various other platforms, her brother K.T. Rama Rao is least bothered. Surprisingly, there was no response from either her father and CM K. Chandrasekhar Rao and her brother KTR even when she announced that she was ready to go to the jail.
There is information that KCR had called Kavtiha and reprimanded soon after the BJP leaders levelled allegations against her in connection with the liquor scam. Why are you unnecessarily getting involved in matters not concerning you, KCR reportedly asked Kavitha.
After her name figured in the remand report, sources said that KTR also faulted and questioned her. Reportedly, she received a rebuke from both the father and brother following which she had to fight back tears in the press meet the next day, say political observers.
The brother-sister sentiment seems to be lacking in both the Telugu states.
