The BRS (formerly TRS) claims that the Rythu Bandhu scheme is a revolutionary one for farmers that provides much needed financial support. In fact this scheme was successful to some extent and later the Modi government in Delhi copied it.
But there are many loopholes in the Rythu Bandhu scheme like for example if a person is holding 600 acres, the money multiplied by Rs 5000 offered by the Telangana government gets credited in his bank account twice in a year. That’s huge money and this scheme did not address the issue of tenant farmers. Also there is no financial bar applicable in this scheme and in that line many ruling party ministers, MLAs and other leaders get Rythu Bandhu money.
Retired IAS officer Akunuri Murali has revealed that even Tollywood hero Nagarjuna Akkineni gets Rythu Bandhu. Speaking at a conference held in Hyderabad Akunuri Murali said, “I know a person who worked in the United States for 30 years. He owns farm lands in Telangana and Rythu Bandhu money gets credited in his account. Even hero Nagarjuna gets Rythu Bandhu benefits. Is it necessary for such wealthy people? Instead the Telangana government should support the tenant farmers who are nearly 22 Lakhs in the state out of the 60 Lakh farmers,” said Murali.
However, Murali did not get into details of the farmland owned by Nagarjuna. Nevertheless the former bureaucrat’s argument was true. The Rythu Bandhu financial assistance should be provided to those farmers who are in dire condition instead of the wealthy farmers.
