As many as 40 sitting MLAs are likely to be replaced with others or the constituencies of their constituencies will be changed in the 2024 elections, as per the sources.
YS Jagan is said to be going through a lot of survey reports and intelligence reports which revealed performance of several party MLAs as weak in many assembly segments. Jagan has already called upon some weak MLAs one after the other and has given a final warning to mend ways and work hard in respective constituencies or they will be replaced.
YSRCP currently has 151 MLAs including CM Jagan. Of 150 MLAs, there are said to be strong negative reports for about 32 MLAs. Particularly, the ruling party MLAs in the Godavari districts and Krishna, Guntur districts are facing a lot of public wrath. Kakinada Rural and City, Kovvur, Achanta and the list is long.
Several assembly segments in Guntur, Bapatla, Palnadu, Prakasam, Nellore, Chittoor, Krishna, Godavari and Visakhapatnam districts are said to be facing stiff anti-incumbency.
As per some reports, Tadikonda Assembly segment in Amaravati resulted in poor performance in the surveys. MLC Varaprasad was appointed as additional incharge for Tadikonda segment since he has strong connections in the assembly compared to MLA Sridevi. Sridevi resisted but in vain. She took this as an indication that she would get replaced by Varaprasad in the 2024 polls.
Jagan has given indications to replace these sitting MLAs which is expected to create an uproar in the party. It is strongly buzzed that new or additional incharges would be appointed in nearly 40 more constituencies from where Jagan received negative feedback in his independent surveys. This has led to a panic-type of situation among the MLAs in several constituencies.
Meanwhile, Jagan is targeting TDP-won seats in 2014 polls. In those constituencies too, Jagan wants to field new candidates. So, overall, more than 50 assembly segments may witness new candidates from YSRCP. This will be a big challenge for Jagan in order to face the heat within the party.
