After a gap of two years, Republic Day would be celebrated in a grand manner without any Covid restrictions this year. Tableaux form the main attraction of the R-Day parade. The winners this year include Konaseema Prabhala Theertham from Andhra Pradesh. The 400-year-old tradition highlights the role of farmers in the economy as well as daily life.
YCP MP V. VIjayasai Reddy revealed about the finalisation of the tableau. Depicting green farmlands, livestock, bullock cart and his lifestyle in an idyllic atmosphere, the tableau is set to display the fact that ‘farmer is the king’. Without the farmer cultivating crops, life on earth cannot sustain. Farmers are not confined to just the economy, they play an important role in the production of food.
The selection of this tableau has cheered the farmers in the state. They felt that their efforts were being recognised even by the central government and that it was a big recognition. However, a few leaders of the farmers’ associations felt that it would be better if the BJP-led NDA government at the Centre is more farmer-friendly and take steps to ensure their welfare. “Parading the tableau is easier but putting in efforts to ensure farmers’ welfare is a tough task,” pointed out the leader of a farmers’ association.
On one hand, the central government is trying to corporatize farming and encouraging corporates to take over the sector but claims that the move would help the small farmers in a big way which is just a false claim, he added.
