Earlier this week the Election Commission of India released the notification for MLC elections. A total of 16 MLC seats will go for polling and there is a huge demand within the YCP for B-form. Sensing the demand, the YCP is maintaining suspense and is in thoughts to announce all the candidates names at once. YSRCP leaders will be meeting chief YS Jagan today to discuss the MLC polls.
Besides the 16 MLC seats, two more will turn vacant on July 20th and these two seats will fall under the Governor’s quota. From Kadapa, P Ramasubba Reddy, Kudupudi Satyanarayana from East Godavari and Jayamangalam Venkataramana’s names were almost confirmed, say the YCP insiders.
However, a section of YCP leaders are unhappy with Jayamangalam Venkataramana getting the MLC B-form. “Who is this Jayamangalam? Just because the I-PAC recommended his name, doesn’t mean he should be given a ticket. Aren’t they BCs in YCP?” questioned an MLA with his followers. But the YCP leadership is of the opinion that Jayamangalam has a significant vote bank in Kolleru and so CM Jagan did not hesitate to offer him B-form as soon as he quit TDP and joined the YCP.
Gunnam Naga Babu, Vanka Ravindra from West Godavari and Neelakanta Naidu and Narthu Rama Rao from Srikakulam are the names in contention for MLCs seats. Apart from these, the YCP high command plans to offer one MLC ticket to women from Kurnool and Anantapur districts while a BC community representation from Chittoor district. There is no clarity from Nellore district.
