New Delhi deputy CM Manish Sisodia received a setback from the Supreme Court. Sisodia approached the top court against his arrest by the CBI in connection with the Delhi Excise Policy.
Taking up the petition, the Supreme Court refused to intervene in the case which is in the investigation stages but suggested Sisodia to approach the Delhi High Court.
Following this decision of the Supreme Court, Manish Sisodia quit his deputy CM post and sent his resignation to Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal. Along with Sisodia, another AAP minister Satyendra Jain also tendered his resignation.
Jain was arrested in a Money Laundering case in May 2022 and he is now in Tihar jail. When Jain was arrested, Delhi CM Kejriwal transferred the former’s portfolio to Sisodia. With Sisodia and Jain out of Kejriwal’s cabinet, there is a requirement for new ministers.
New Delhi’s budget is likely to be placed in another ten days and Sisodia was handling the finance ministry until his resignation. Kejriwal will be forced to go for cabinet expansion and he will take a call on it this week.
