AP state government’s appeal to immediately hear the Amaravati case has been ignored by the Supreme Court. The Apex court has yet again refused to admit Amaravati case despite repeated requests from AP state government. The Supreme Court reiterated that it would hear the case on March 28 as confirmed earlier.
Going into details, the AP government has been requesting the Supreme court to extend the hearing to March 29th & March 30th. But the court made it clear that the hearing won’t be extended against the rules and norms. Justice KM Joseph stated that Mar 29 and 30 being Wednesday and Thursday. The bench quoted the CJI circular to not conduct hearings on the particular dates. Justice KM Joseph said to take up hearing on those days is not in his hands and the final decision on this would be taken by the CJI.
Justice KM Joseph stated that Amaravati case is a crucial case involving several constitutional aspects and hence a detailed and in-depth hearing is needed. He stated that he can’t elaborate on this case. Meanwhile, the advocates representing AP government have appealed to Justice KM Joseph to permit them to approach the CJI for extending hearing on March 29 & 30th. However, Justice Joseph has gently turned down the request.
Advocate Niranjan Reddy, who is representing AP government, had appealed to Justice KM Joseph and Justice BV Naga Ratna bench on last Monday to hear the Amaravati case in speedy manner. Responding to this, the bench stated that it would hear the case on March 28th. Within 3 days, the advocates of AP government have again requested the Supreme Court to hear the case at the earliest. This is seen as a minor setback as the court reiterated that it would hear the case as per the previously fixed date only.
