Chaos prevailed on the first day at the Global Investors’ Summit in Vizag this afternoon during the lunch hour as meals got exhausted even when several delegates did not have their food. This situation occurred as more than 15,000 people got registered for the event. As the registration was free, many commoners, including auto rickshaw drivers, got registered just to view the event while only a handful attended the event with an intention to really invest in the state.
At the same time, there was no clear indication to identify who was a delegate, investor or a commoner. In such a situation, all those who went outside were not allowed to return to their seats creating a lot of panic. There were several flaws in organizing the event and this led to a confusion during the distribution of GIS kits too. The common people stormed the stall where kits were being distributed. As a result, the stall collapsed. The commoners who attended the event took away all of the kits, leaving only a few for the delegates.
There was a stampede-like situation at the venue and the police had a tough time in controlling the public. The situation made one wonder if it was a global meet which was attended by many foreign delegates.
Chief Minister Y.S. Jaganmohan Reddy boasts of having three capitals. How will he be able to manage matters while he cannot ensure that a two-day event was organised in a fool-proof manner, asked TDP leaders. When organizing such summits, the officials should take all precautions to avoid confusion and chaos, said the opposition leaders.
