TDP spokesperson K. Pattabhiram said that the YCP government was ignoring the spirit of democracy and behaving in an ‘undemocratic’ manner. Pattabhi said that he was arrested foisting false cases on him. “False cases and life threats will not deter the TDP leaders from fighting against the goondaism of the YCP government,” he asserted.
The TDP will continue to support the backward communities. “The TDP office in Gannavaram was vandalized and I was arrested when I tried to file a case against the harassment being meted out to one of our party leaders belonging to the backward communities. This means that supporting the marginalized communities is a sin in Andhra Pradesh.”
The government has registered cases under Section 307 against many of the TDP leaders belonging to the backward communities, he said.
Pattabhi said that the YCP government confined him in Thotlavallur police station and three men thrashed him between 2 am-5 am. The goondas tortured me in darkness. Power supply to the police station was cut and the staff in the station was asked to leave the premises. They masked my face with a towel and unleashed violence on me,” he said.
Pattabhi said that he was attacked by the YCP men and the government four times so far but the TDP leaders will not step back. Under the leadership of Nara Chandrababu Naidu and Lokesh, we will continue to fight against the YCP’s harassment and violence. Police should protect the people but under the YCP rule, they joined hands with the goondas and are acting like YCP agents, he alleged.
He thanked all other TDP leaders who had been of great support to him and his family when he was arrested and put in custody.
