India’s opposition leaders in unison have dropped a letter bomb to Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The scathing letter by the opposition is over Delhi Deputy CM Manish Sissodia’s arrest and the alleged misuse of investigating agencies by the centre. Now, the reports have it that the brain behind this opposition letter is Telangana CM and BRS president KCR. This has become a talking point in national media circles. The letter has signatures of Mamta Banerjee, Arvind Kejriwal, Sharad Pawar, Uddhav Thackeray, Akhilesh Yadav, Farooq Abdullah, Punjab CM Bhagwant Mann, RJD’s Tejashwi Yadav and others.
“Dear Pradhan Mantri Ji, We hope you would agree that India is still a democratic country. The blatant misuse of central agencies against the members of the opposition appears to suggest that we have transitioned from being a democracy to an autocracy,” reads the opening paragraph of the opposition’s letter.
The absence of the main opposition Congress, DMK’s Stalin, JD(U) Nitish Kumar, JDS Kumarswamy Gowda in this opposition letter is conspicuous. Congress key leaders Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi are being investigated by the ED in the National Herald case. Congress leaders have been claiming that this is political vengeance by the BJP by misusing the central investigative agencies. Whereas, Congress leaders were not part of this crucial letter. With this, the letter clearly indicates a non-Congress opposition with KCR playing a crucial role in it.
“Be it the Governor of Tamil Nadu, Maharashtra, West Bengal, Punjab, Telangana or the Lt Governor of Delhi – the Governors have become the face of the widening rift between the Centre and states run by the non-BJP governments and threaten the spirit of cooperative federalism, which the states continue to nurture in spite of a lack of expression by the Centre. As a result, the people of our country have now begun to question the role of the Governors in Indian democracy,” the letter stressed.
It is strongly buzzed that the point of Governor is also highlighted at the behest of Telangana CM KCR, say the sources. CM KCR is having a direct war with Governor Tamilisai Soundararajan. So, BRS chief KCR is leaving no stone unturned to play a significant role in national politics. Meanwhile, speculations are rife that KCR’s daughter and MLC Kavitha is likely to be arrested in the Delhi liquor scam.
