MLAs Vallabhaneni Vamsi, Karanam Balram, Maddala Giri and Vasupalli Ganesh who won on Telugu Desam B-forms in 2019 turned rebels post the elections. All the four MLAs moved close to YCP but did not tender resignation. Moreover these MLAs are receiving salaries as TDP members according to the Assembly’s finance statements.
TDP chief Chandrababu Naidu did not take any action against these four MLAs. Even though all the four MLAs were personally targeting Naidu and his son Lokesh, the TDP chief did not bother and initiated any action against them. But now Naidu has a chance in the form of the MLC elections and this can be reckoned as a master stroke for the rebels.
Telugu Desam has 23 MLAs in the Assembly and if Naidu issues a whip ahead of the MLC elections, the MLAs are bound to vote for the candidate strengthened by the TDP. If all the 23 MLAs vote for TDP’s candidate, their party leader would certainly get elected. In the last MLC polls, TDP issued a whip and the rebels had no choice rather than to vote for TDP candidate.
Just in case if the MLAs do not abide by the whip issued by TDP, the party is considering lodging a complaint against them with the Election Commission of India (ECI). On the other hand Chandrababu is estimating the votes of YCP rebels like Kotamreddy Sridhar Reddy and Anam Ramnarayana Reddy.
All in all Chandrababu’s persistence got paid with the MLC polls.
