Tense Situation At The Nagarjuna University Over RGV’s ‘Lessons’

Published by

Tense situation prevailed at the Nagarjuna University with the student unions staging a protest at the varsity demanding action against ace director Ram Gopal Varma. Led by the Telugu Nadu Students Federation, student wing of the TDP, the students demanded arrest of film director Ram Gopal Varma for his ‘sex lessons’ while speaking in the Nagarjuna Univeristy.

The film director was invited as the chief guest for the inauguration of the Academic Science Exhibition in the varsity during which he suggested that students to enjoy life by doing whatever they wanted like eating and drinking as they wished. Further, he said that there might not be Rambha, Urvasi and Menaka to enjoy in heaven, once an individual died. Hence, he asked the students to enjoy life when they are living on the earth itself. The V-C, who was also present on the dais, too agreed with the director, instead of the condemning the director’s words.

He said that he was such a type of man who would never take chance to leave out something for enjoyment after death. He cited ‘a bird in hand is worth two in the bush’ and said that students should also try to dreaming about something after death.

He also said that all the men on earth, except him, should die due to some viral infection and that he alone should be the man with whom women can enjoy.

A large number of TNSF activists and student unions staged a demonstration demanding that a case be registered against the director and they also demand removal of Nagarjuna University V-C Prof. Rajasekhar from duties.

Sensing trouble, the police reached the place to bring the situation under control and took the student leaders into custody before shifting them to the police station.

Similar protests were staged at Sri Venkateswara University in Tirupati where the ABVP leaders burnt Varma in effigy. They also demanded that Varma should be thrown out of the country and that the Nagarjuna University V-C should be suspended.

Senior Congress leader V. Hanumantha Rao also took exception to RGV’s sex comments in front of the students. He asked the women’s commission to take the director’s comments as suo moto and file a case against him. He also wanted RGV to tender apology to the women for his indecent remarks. He said that RGV always spoke about women in connection with sex and liquor even while they were progressing in all professions and proving their mettle. He treats them only as sex objects, VH said.
