Delhi Liquor Scam: Kavitha Rises To Fame

Published by

K Kavitha, who was known to the people as chief minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao’s daughter and BRS leader, shot to fame suddenly,, though for dubious reasons.

Thanks to the ED making her as one among those involved in the Delhi liquor policy scam.
Her alleged involvement in the scam prompted both the regional and national media to focus on her and read out her name, bulletin after bulletin.

Right from when the scam was unearthed last year, she grabbed the media attention. Several other names cropped up during the probe, including AAP former minister Manish Sisodia, Kavitha’s former chartered accountant Bucchi Babu, Hyderabad-based liquor businessman and Indo Spirits director Arun Ramachandra Pillai., Abhishek Boinpalli, political leader Mafunta Srinivas Reddy and others.

However, the ED revelations that Kavitha is the kingpin of the South Cartel and that she was involved in routing snd transfer of note than Rs 100 crore, drew both the media and public attention.

Following the ED’s revelations about Kavitha ‘role in the scam, she was interviewed by the Telugu and English news channels where she slammed the BJP-led NDA government for using the investigation agencies as mere political weapons to destabilize governments and harass non-BJP politicians. In the English news channels, one could hear Kavitha speaking good English while answering various queries posed by the news anchors.

Kavitha being the lone woman leader in the entire scam surprised many. In Telangana, she was no more than her father,’s daughter who enjoyed Constitutional positions owing to her family connections. Being the sister of KCR’s son and minister K.T. Rama Rao, she was confined to second-rung positions in the state.

The ED summons to Kavitha and her protest seeking reservation to the women in Parliament also brought Kavitha into focus.
Though for the wrong reasons, Kavitha has now rose to prominence in the national politics.
