Last week senior YCP leader and former minister Balineni Srinivasa Reddy resigned to his Regional Coordinator role. This resignation had ignited an internal debate in YCP and in Prakasam district politics as well.
This episode erupted with AP CM YS Jagan reshuffling the AP cabinet and Balineni had to become ex-minister. Since then Balineni was reportedly upset with YCP leadership and in order to pacify him, he was made the Regional Coordinator for Nellore, Chittoor and Tirupati districts. But somehow Balineni could not last long in the role and so he stepped down.
Being the senior most leader and a true loyal to YSR family, the YCP cadre thought Balineni will be consoled by CM Jagan or at least CM’s advisor Sajjala Ramakrishna Reddy. The weekend passed and there was absolutely no call from YCP leadership and Tadepalli CM’s camp office. This shows that the YCP high command is not bothered about Balineni resignation and this is worrying Balineni’s followers and Prakasam YCP cadre.
Apparently Balineni played a significant role for YCP. In 2019 elections, he was one to approach for MLA tickets and he ensured his loyalists received the B-form. In the second cabinet reshuffle, Balineni was shown the exit doors and Adimulapu Suresh was given the chance. Since then things are haywire in Prakasam YCP cadre.
This is not the first time that Balineni is unhappy with YCP’s leadership. Before the 2019 elections, he was about to quit the party but withdrew the idea after YS Vijayamma spoke to him. Last month on April 12th, when CM Jagan visited Markapuram, Balineni was stopped from welcoming Jagan. He felt humiliated and later other controversies surrounded him.
Yet no biggie from the YCP leadership reached Balineni to talk about the differences. All these developments suggest that Balineni is being forced to exit the party. Now he is left with only one option and it is to leave the party, says Balineni followers.
