Motorists, specially those driving heavy vehicles, were put to severe inconvenience due to Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy’s visit to Bhogapuram. Reddy laid the foundation stone for the Bhogapuram international airport and later addressed the public at a meeting held in Savaravilli village near Bhogapuram.
As part of security measures for the CM’s programme, the entire area was cordoned off and vehicular movement was stalled on the NH near Palasa in Srikakulam district for nearly 3-4 hours. Police stopped the vehicles near Lakshmipuram toll gate and the drivers had queued up their vehicles for nearly 3 km.
The drivers fumed at the traffic police over why the traffic was stalled at a place nearly 130 km away from the CM’s programme venue. Some drivers said that they had been travelling continuously and planning to take rest after crossing the toll plaza but had to keep awake for extra hours due to the stalling of traffic for the CM’s programme. However, there was relief to the drivers only after Jagan Mohan Reddy left the venue.
In earlier incidents too, the common public complained of being confined to houses and not allowed to move out of their homes till the CM was around the premises of their houses in several places. Whenever Jagan Reddy goes to attend any programme, people in the area complain of being harassed in one or the other way.
In one instance, the vehicle of a family on pilgrimage to Tirupati was taken off by the police at Ongole, stating that it needs to be included in the convoy. Then the CM ordered the officials not to put the public to inconvenience just for his sake but nothing seems to have changed since then.
