In 2020, the Andhra Pradesh government retrieved land that was allotted to Amara Raja Batteries Ltd and it was intended for setting up a Giga factory. Despite going to the courts, Amara Raja could not get respite and finally it took a call to leave Andhra Pradesh. Telangana grabbed the opportunity and today in Mahbubnagar, the groundbreaking ceremony was held.
Telangana IT minister KTR was the special guest of the event and speaking on the occasion he took a swipe at AP CM Jagan led YCP government. “Even Gods faced many battles and so there will be culprits who would want to create an unnecessary ruckus for this investment. Amara Raja is setting up a Lithium-Ion battery manufacturing unit and it’s a zero liquid discharge thing which would not affect the environment,” said KTR.
The minister further added that some people might still have doubts. “I request the concerned minister of this district to arrange at least 5 to 10 buses for people and take them for a tour of the manufacturing unit as well as surrounding villages,” added KTR.
Welcoming Amara Raja, KTR revealed that when the company walked out of AP, eight other states in the country competed for it. “I thank Jayadev Galla for choosing Telangana and Amara Raja will be investing Rs 3000 crore in the first three years and over the next few years, it will expand its investments. In future we will be driving more battery vehicles and this Gigafactory will contribute significantly to the battery making,” stated KTR.
Amara Raja Batteries, the No. 2 in the battery making sector in the country was allegedly witch-hunted by the YCP government. The state of Andhra Pradesh lost a massive investment of Rs 9500 crore.
