The Christian community in Andhra Pradesh which had lent support and voted for the YCP during the last elections is now hearing to a different preaching.
With YCP boss and Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy’s brother-in-law and evangelist Brother Anil Kumar campaigning strategically and influencing the Christians in the state, the entire community backed the YCP in 2019. Of the total 24 SC reserved seats, the YCP won 23 of them.
But now, Anil Kumar is not campaigning in AP. Reportedly, he is ensuring that his aides campaign against the YCP this time.
In the wake of the injustice done to his wife, who is Jagan’s sister, both in terms of family relations and property distribution, Anil Kumar is dissatisfied with Jagan. There is talk in the YCP that Anil Kumar’s juniors are campaigning against their party.
Surprisingly, the same people who urged the electorate to vote for the YCP in 2019 polls are suggesting that they not vote for the party in 2024 elections.
The YCP men are telling the voters to follow the path indicated by their soul. The anti-YCP campaign is carefully worded so as not to take the name of the party but to give a clear indication to the voter.
“The person whom we have strengthened last time has diverted from the righteous path. Attempts to bring him back to the right path have failed. This time, let us follow our soul and exercise our franchise,” say the preachers.
It has to be seen what impact do these words would have on the voters.
