K’taka: Telugus Hit BJP Badly

Published by

The Bharatiya Janata Party, which entered the Karnataka assembly elections as the ruling party, has tasted a terrible defeat from the people of Karnataka. In the post poll analysis, it has come out that the Telugu community’s role in BJP’s defeat is significant.

In Karnataka’s capital, Bengaluru, the presence of North Indians and Telugu community is prominent while the Telugus are spread across many constituencies all over the state. In fact they form a crucial vote bank too.

The analysis reveals that the Telugu community played a big part in the victory of the Congress party. Apart from Bengaluru, there are about ten districts in Karnataka where Telugu people live the most. BJP won very few seats in these districts.

Out of the total ten districts, the BJP did not win a single seat in four districts. In the remaining six districts, the saffron party won a seat each in three districts and two seats each in the remaining three districts.

There are 63 Assembly Constituencies in these ten districts and the BJP managed to win only in 9 seats. In a way, it should be said that these ten districts played a vital role in BJP’s terrible defeat.

BJP won more seats in Bengaluru metropolis due to the majority of people from North India. At the same time, where Kannadigas and Telugus are a major vote bank, the BJP was badly defeated. Congress has demonstrated undisputed dominance.
