Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister YS Jagan Reddy recently performed the bhoomi pooja (ground-breaking ceremony) for the Machilipatnam (Bandar) port and unveiled a pylon at Thapasipudi village in the Bandar mandal. Arriving from the Tadepalli camp office, CM Jagan reached the Bharat Scouts and Guides grounds at ZP Centre via a special helicopter before making his way to Thapasipudi village.
The inauguration of Bandar port holds significant importance due to its history. The project has faced considerable delays and has seen multiple foundation stone laying ceremonies in the past. In 2008, the late CM YS Rajasekhar Reddy performed the necessary formalities, but the construction failed to progress. Subsequently, in February 2019, former CM Nara Chandrababu Naidu conducted another ceremony; however, the TDP government lost power in the subsequent elections. Now, CM Jagan has now hosted a similar event.
The construction work order for the port has been awarded to Megha Engineering, and the state government has estimated the cost of the port’s first phase to be around Rs 5,235.48 crore. Out of this amount, the Power Finance Corporation is set to contribute Rs 3,940.42 crore as a loan, accounting for 75 percent of the total estimated cost.
Now, the question arises: will the construction of Bandar port finally move forward from this point onward and provide much-needed employment opportunities for the local youth? Only time will tell whether this long-awaited project will come to fruition and fulfill its potential in boosting the local economy.
Overall, the inauguration of Bandar port marks a significant milestone in its development, raising hopes for progress and prosperity in the region.
