In a tragic incident, a three train crash killed more than 200 passengers and injured more than 900 in Odisha.
Shalimar-Chennai Coromandel Express collided with a Good train with 10 – 12 coaches of it derailed and fell on the opposite track. The accident happened around 7:20 pm near Bahanaga Bazar station when the train was on the way to Chennai Central Station from the Shalimar station near Kolkata.
After some time, Yeshwanthpur to Howrah came crashing into the derailed coaches. 4 coaches from the Yeshwanthpur – Howrah express derailed in the crash.
Chief Secretary of Odisha discloses that 132 injured shifted to Soro CHC, Gopalpur CHC, and Khantapada PHC. Three teams of the National Disaster Response Fund (NDRF) and four units of Odisha’s DRF along with 60 ambulances were mobilized for the rescue operation.
Friday’s rescue effort included more than 115 ambulances and several fire service units. Helpline numbers :

Prime Minister Narendra Modi tweeted his condolences on Friday. ‘Distressed by the train accident in Odisha. In this hour of grief, my thoughts are with the bereaved families. May the injured recover soon. Rescue ops are underway at the site of the mishap and all possible assistance is being given to those affected’.
This three-train crash’s death toll surpasses the infamous 2016 train accident in Uttar Pradesh in 2016. 140 were killed in the 2016 train accident.
