In an unexpected turn of events, YSR Telangana Party (YSRTP) president and late YSR daughter Y.S. Sharmila has reportedly agreed to merge her party into the Congress. Claiming to be ‘Telangana Kodalu’, she took up padayatra amid much fanfare and never left any opportunity to blast at the ruling BRS in the state.
In several such instances, she even had to face police cases. Recently, she even grabbed limelight after lambasting and slapping a woman constable following ruckus over Group-I paper leakage. There is buzz that Sharmila had formally agreed for the merger though she initially had intention to go alone in the polls.
However, with none of the prominent and senior leaders of Telangana getting in touch with her despite invitations, Sharmila seems to have taken this decision in desperation. It is learnt that Karnataka Congress chief and Deputy CM D.K. Shiva Kumar and YSR Aatma K.V. P. Ramachandra Rao touch based her and ensured that she agreed for the merger.
At the same time, it is learnt that the Congress also agreed to two of her demands – one of them being leaving the Paderu constituency in Khammam to her and also allocating 10 Assembly seats for her aides during the polls. There is information that she also demanded for the deputy CM post if the Congress formed the government in Telangana and there is talk that the Congress agreed to both of the demands. It has to be seen how things will shape up in the future.
