Last week there were multiple reports that YSRTP chief YS Sharmila would join the Congress party. Even though Sharmila condemned such reports on social media, the political circles kept buzzing but in the last few days, the reports faded out with time. Amidst this we hear that there were two people who are opposing Sharmila to join Congress and so the high command is in dual thoughts.
According to highly placed sources, none other than Telangana PCC chief Revanth Reddy is opposing Sharmila into Congress. Besides Revanth, Congress party political strategist Sunil Kanugolu who played a pivotal role in Congress party’s victory in the Karnataka Assembly elections also doesn’t want Sharmila in Congress fold.
Strategist Sunil reportedly met the Congress high command on June 28th in New Delhi and discussed Sharmila’s induction. Sunil informed the high command that Sharmila’s entry into Congress will have a negative impact because she campaigned against Telangana agitation. Sunil also cited the example of Congress’ alliance with Telugu Desam in 2018 elections and the circumstances might repeat in the upcoming elections.
After consulting Sunil, the Congress high command reached out to Sharmila and informed her that her services would be utilized in Andhra Pradesh instead. However, Sharmila was not convinced with Congress’ proposal and clarified that her interest is with Telangana and she is in no mood to go to Andhra Pradesh.
So how will this break? Will PCC chief Revanth compromise or will Sharmila continue with her YSRTP? A multiple poll battle would only benefit the ruling party and this will do all the harm for the opposition.
