In the 2019 elections, Jana Sena contested in 146 Assembly constituencies and allotted remaining seats to Communist parties and BSP. However Jana Sena faced a humiliating defeat and won just a single seat. Jana Sena could not hold on to its only seat for long as the MLA turned rebel and is now closely associated with ruling YCP.
Nonetheless when the voting percentage was calculated, Jana Sena earned 7.5 percent in its first attempt. Political analysts opine that this is a big number considering the strong wave of YCP in the 2019 elections.
In the last four years, Jana Sena led by chief Pawan Kalyan agitated against the YCP government policies. Be it supporting tenant farmers, voicing for SCs and STs, Pawan Kalyan led protests from front. Simultaneously Pawan tried to get associated with the Kapu community which is a major vote bank in AP. As a result, the graph of Jana Sena has gone upwards according to few surveys.
A few independent organisations have conducted surveys in AP and weighed on the party that would get the majority if elections are held now. In these surveys, Jana Sena’s vote share was a special mention. The surveys predicted that salaried class and middle class are in favour to vote for Jana Sena.
Youth who turned majors, eligible for voting and those who haven’t casted their vote previously, are willing to vote for Jana Sena and it’s completely based on Pawan Kalyan’s charisma and his assurance for a good governance.
Summing up these surveys, it is evident that Jana Sena’s vote share is going to increase from previous attempt. The share could be at least two or three and if combined with the previous election vote share, Jana Sena’s overall vote share could touch double digit i.e, 10 percent.
Considering the elections are nine to ten months away, the graph might further go up and this would only benefit Pawan Kalyan and his party. This is a positive sign and if Jana Sena works more aggressively, it will certainly take advantage of the anti-incumbency of the YCP government.
