YSRTP chief YS Sharmila is likely to meet Congress former president Sonia Gandhi in Bengaluru. On 17th and 18th of this month, the opposition parties are going to meet to fight against the BJP and Bengaluru will be hosting the oppositions. The last meeting was held in Patna last month and 17 opposition parties from all over the country took part in it.
For the latest meeting, 24 parties are likely to join and Congress is personally extending invitations to everyone. Keeping this aside, Sonia Gandhi is going to be in Bengaluru on the above mentioned dates and from highly placed sources, a meeting between Sonia and Sharmila has been scheduled.
Karnataka deputy CM DK Shivakumar is reportedly negotiating the dialogue process between Congress and Sharmila. The final call regarding the same is yet to be taken. While Congress wants Sharmila to merge her YSRTP with the Congress, Sharmila is only willing to go for an alliance and wants to focus only on Telangana politics. Things did not progress further accordingly despite Shivakumar reaching out to Sharmila multiple times.
Amidst this uncertainty Sonia and Sharmila’s meeting has garnered significance. On other hand Telangana PCC chief Revanth Reddy is severely opposing Sharmila. Nevertheless, the ultimate decision in Congress will be taken by the Gandhis and everyone is bound to follow it.
So what will happen? Will Sharmila accept Congress proposal to merge and take the responsibilities of Andhra Pradesh Congress? Or will it just be an alliance ahead of Telangana Assembly elections?
