Former cricketer Ambati Rayudu was caught in a tricky situation when he visited the Veerabhadraswamy temple at Velagapudi in the Amaravati capital region on Monday.
After sending feelers to join the YCP, the party leaders of the capital region invited him to the capital. Catching wind of his visit to the capital region, the Amaravati farmers, who had been staging demonstrations for more than three years demanding that Amaravati be retained as the lone capital of Andhra Pradesh, reached the temple and urged him to support their cause.
Reportedly, the farmers told him that they had prayed for his century in cricket matches and wanted him to reciprocate by supporting their cause of Amaravati.
They urged him to raise ‘Jai Amaravati’ slogan. To this, Rayudu tried to pacify them saying that Amaravati would not go anywhere and will be in the same place. The farmers requested him to visit their protest camp but the cricketer said he would do it during his next visit.
