TDP chief Chandrababu Naidu breathed fire against Andhra Pradesh police over filing false cases against the TDP party workers and leaders. Following the incidents of violence in Punganur, Chittoor police have arrested about 60 TDP workers and filed three cases against them. About 100 TDP workers are not traceable as per TDP leaders. So far, 5 FIRs have been filed and over 200 were booked under these cases. Those who have been arrested are in police custody and they have not been produced in court yet. TDP leaders and their family members are expressing their fear over those who are arrested.
Chittoor district leaders have briefed the situation to Naidu and told him the plight of the party workers and leaders. They explained to him the issues of detention and arrests and imposing restrictions over the activities, movement of the TDP workers. Families of the arrested party workers are alleging harassment from police.
Responding to these, former CM Chandrababu moved by. He gave a mass warning to Chittoor police. “Khabaddar! We will file private cases in the courts against the police. We won’t spare police who file false cases against the TDP cadre,” said Chandrababu. Naidu spoke to the TDP leaders and instilled confidence among them that the party would stand by the cadre. Naidu assured of legal support as well to those who are arrested by the police.
