A recent survey conducted across all 119 constituencies of Telangana has provided significant insights into the prevailing political sentiments in the state. With a sample size of 1024 participants from each constituency, this comprehensive survey was carried out between August 6-12, aiming to gauge the state’s political mood based on a representative sample. The results indicate a noteworthy shift in the political landscape, particularly for the ruling party, BRS.
Comparing the present findings to the 2018 elections, where the then TRS secured a vote share of 47.4 percent, the latest survey indicates a decline in their vote share to 40 percent. This decline accounts for a significant drop of 7 percent in votes. Such a notable decrease in support cannot be overlooked. Congress has emerged as the second contender with a vote share of 27.6 percent, followed by BJP at the third spot with 14.8 percent votes.
Despite the continuous assertions by figures like KCR, KTR, and Harish Rao that Telangana is progressing due to the implementation of welfare schemes and developmental initiatives, the survey suggests a shift in popular opinion. The unique development model of Telangana, touted as a benchmark by some, is now witnessing a potential decrease to 40 percent in votes.
As the scheduled elections are only four months away, there’s notable opposition to KCR’s administration. However, the opposition faces its own challenges. Internal controversies and power struggles among senior leaders within Congress have hindered their chances of victory.
Meanwhile, within the BJP, there is a dearth of leaders with genuine leadership qualities capable of providing robust competition in all constituencies. These dynamics may explain why KCR is aiming for a hat-trick victory.
