India is going to be renamed as Bharat. PM Narendra Modi-led Union Government is seriously mulling over the option of renaming the country’s name. As per various news reports, the Union Government is likely to bring a fresh resolution during the Special Session of Parliament. Earlier, the government called a special session of the Parliament on September 18 – 21. During this, the proposal to change the nation’s name from India to Bharat is expected to be moved.
These speculations are triggered with the invitations of Rashtrapati Bhawan for the G20 dinner which is going to be held on September 9. The guests who received the G20 dinner invite were stunned to notice that it is mentioned as the ‘President of Bharat’. In the official communique to the G20 delegates, Rashtrapati Bhavan mentioned Droupadi Murmu as the President of Bharat. This triggered speculations. Former Union Minister and Congress senior leader Jairam Ramesh pointed out at this and said ‘President Of Bharat’ is inscribed on the invitation instead of ‘President of India’. He took to Twitter and wrote, “
So the news is indeed true. Rashtrapati Bhawan has sent out an invite for a G20 dinner on Sept 9th in the name of ‘President of Bharat’ instead of the usual ‘President of India’. Now, Article 1 in the Constitution can read: ‘Bharat, that was India, shall be a Union of States.’ But now even this ‘Union of States’ is under assault.”
Meanwhile, speculations are buzz whether the passports should also be renamed accordingly. Currently, the passports are mentioned as the ‘Republic of India’ and if the name may be changed to Bharat, the passports may also be changed to ‘Republic of Bharat’. Social media is currently abuzz with these reports and speculations. An official confirmation on renaming the country is still awaited.
