Jana Sena chief Pawan Kalyan’s announcement of a political alliance with the TDP is leaving the YCP leaders worried, specially the MLAs who had won with a majority of over 1,000 votes.
There are 42 constituencies from which the YCP MLAs have won with a majority of 1,000 votes upon their rivals. In 2019, the YCP won in 151 constituencies and 42 of them with a majority of 1,000 votes. For exampale, in Vijayawada Central, the YCP won with a wafer-thin majority of 25 votes. The YCP secured similar majority from the twin Godavari districts to Srikakulam, Vizianagaram, Kurnool and Nellore districts. A majority of them won with a difference of below 500 votes.
A few had registered victory securing a majority of 500-1000 votes.
In 2019, it was a triangular fight between the YCP, Jana Sena and the TDP. Political analysts said that the YCP benefited due to splitting of votes between the TDP and Jana Sena.
Now, after confirmation of the TD-JS alliance, votes might not get split, which would prove detrimental to the YCP, estimated political analysts.
For the same reason, the YCP is against the alliance between the opposition parties. The YCP has to focus on these 42 constituencies to ensure a landslide victory in the 2024 elections, political analysts added.
