In what can be a welcome development for Pawan Kalyan’s Janasena party, the Election Commission of India (ECI) has allocated the ‘Glass’ symbol for the party. This comes as a huge sigh of relief for the party ahead of the 2024 general elections. Janasena earlier contested on the ‘Glass’ symbol, but the party failed to get a considerable seats and vote share.
Janasena chief and actor Pawan Kalyan who contested from two Assembly constituencies have been defeated. The party must secure the required eight per cent of votes in 2019. Janasena has failed to get the minimum vote percentage. The party won a single Assembly seat in the Razole Assembly constituency. Janasena was confined to about 7 percent vote share.
After a periodic review, the EC has put the Glass in the list of free symbols that can be assigned to anyone. This was considered as a huge setback for Janasena. During then, Janasena Political Affairs Committee chairman Nadendla Manohar stated that they were exploring legal options and also confident of regaining the same symbol for the next polls.
In a dramatic turn of events, Janasena has got the same Glass symbol again. The EC has now allocated the Glass symbol ahead of 2024 polls. This is usually a rare thing. Many opine that Pawan Kalyan’s contacts in Delhi and his bonhomie with the Centre seems to have played a crucial role in getting back the ‘Glass’ symbol. Overall, it is a positive sign for Janasena ahead of 2024. Janasena Pawan Kalyan announced the alliance with TDP in the coming polls. It needs to be seen whether BJP would join the alliance or not.
