Former CM Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy’s daughter and Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy’s sister Y.S. Sharmila is caught in a tricky situation. Peeved over neglected by her brother even after helping him in a big way when he was jailed, she floated her own political party YSR Telangana party in Telangana. Jagan is the Chief Minister of AP.
However, she is neither able to carry on with her party activities nor is she able to merge her political party with the Congress. She has been awaiting response from the Congress authorities for a nod to merge her political outfit. In such a situation, there are doubts if this is the end of Sharmila’s political journey?
To merge her party with the Congress, Sharmila had gone to New Delhi and held consultations with former AICC chief Sonia Gandhi. With no concrete reply from her over the merger, Sharmila even went to Bengaluru and spoke to Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar and later, did 2-3 rounds of New Delhi too. She put forth her demands including allocating the Paleru ticket to her.
Meanwhile, several other leaders are joining the Congress but there has been no step forward with respect to merger of Sharmila’s party with the Congress. It is learnt that Sharmila had urged the Congress leadership to finalise her position, as the election schedule is likely to be released soon.
Several Congress leaders, including TPCC chief A. Revanth Reddy, are learnt to be objecting to Sharmila’s entry into the party, as many of them fear it would be like giving a weapon to the BRS. Revanth, it is known, has suggested that Sharmila’s role in the party should be confined to Andhra Pradesh.
It has to be seen how Sharmila’s political future would shape up in the run up to the elections.
