23-year-old Avanti, wife of 28-year-old Yogi Hemanth Kumar, the victim of the latest incident of honour killing in Hyderabad, has urged Telagnana Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao to encounter her mother, father, maternal uncle and said that justice would be done to her only if they were killed. She also urged KCR to issue non-bailable warrants against the remaining 15-18 of her relatives who also assisted her maternal uncles in killing her husband. She urged KCR, KTR and AP CM Jagan to do justice to her.
Avanti and Hemanth fell in love with each other eight years ago and then got married in June 2020, despite opposition from Avanti’s parents. They belonged to different castes and also to different social class. Avanti’s father owns real estate properties in and around the city.
The newly-wed couple began living separately and enjoying their time when a week ago, Avanti’s maternal uncles and some other relatives reached Avanti’s house saying that they would like the couple to reunite with Avanti’s family.
Later, they forced Avanti and Hemanth to get into a car and drove them to the outskirts of the city. Somehow, the duo managed to get out of the car but Avanti’s uncles did not leave Hemanth and again put him in the car and drove away to Zaheerabad.
They reportedly hired killers to hack Hemanth to death. Hemanth’s arms and legs were tied and then killed while returning to the city. Later, they dumped the body at Kistaigudem in Sangareddy.
“I never expected that they would stoop to such low level. I will consider my parents dead. I will live with my in-laws and lead the rest of my life,” Avanti said.
She made it clear that she would fight a legal battle against her parents and relatives but not go back to them.
